Whalers PR
Listen. Off in the distance. There is a constant thudding. You approach this sound, very similar to the sound that a Brontosaurus might make if he were taking slow steady steps through the Jurassic jungle. As we approach, the sound is a deafening thud and is getting louder. Just under the thuds we can hear a monotonous humming sound.
Getting closer a faint glint of light escapes a doorway. You peak in and see an image teetering back and forth against the wall. You lean in for a closer look and to hear if the humming you hear are actually words, they are. You notice upon a closer examination that it is Whalers GM, Paul Gagne. He is standing behind his desk banging his head against the wall and muttering, "STUPID, STUPID, STUPID.......". Obviously this is his way of dealing with the record of his club.
You knock on the door before you enter, just out of courtesy. He stops banging his head and turns to you to reveal that he has built up a calus on his forehead, one can only assume that this isn't the first time he has banged his head. He sits in his seat after requesting that you sit in the chair on the front side of his desk. The look on his face shows he is off in thought, obviously still terribly distraught. He asks, "How may I be of service to you?".
That's how it is here in the offices of the Whalers. No matter how bad things are for the team, GM Paul Gagne still wishes to help others out. He does realize that the process he has started will take time but he really would like results soon. He is tired of slander from other GM's eventhough he says it doesn't bother him, the dent in the wall would say otherwise. The best that he and the Whalers organization can do is stay the path and have patience. If you want to build a powerhouse on your own it takes a lot of time and patience.
On a better note the farm squad is holding their own and is developing a great squad of up and comers. The winning sense has to be developed and enhanced. Some may say that the winning spirit was already on this team when Paul Gagne took it over and has since disappeared but Paul has his own vision and will see it thru.

Typical Brooklyn apology
Marek Zagrapan. Who? Marek Zagrapan! Wouldn't know the guy if I ran him over. Must have had a two hour conversation about this player today. To any any make sense of this comment you will need to realize who I was talking to, know some history, go back to last nights game #136. JETS 3, AMERICANS 6 and check the game summaries.
"You prick, you put out my leading scorer, best player ... now what am I going to do?" Hmmmm. Not hard to believe I was listening, (not actually talking), to the Jets GM.at work. Seems Mr. Zagrapan was placed on injury reserve after the Americans triumph over the Jets. Sources say he will be out for 10 games. The tears. The utter disbelief. Bob is in shock. Forget about pathetic one line hockey teams. Are the Jets that unstable the're a one player hockey team?
"Coach told us at the start of the year to collapse down defensively and play tough in our zone" Stated Brian Pothier. "We didn't do this enough last year. Nothing out of the ordinary happened, you crash the net, sometimes you get rewarded...more than likely you'll get taken out.Pothier went on to say " After the whistle the only player who didn't get up was Zagrapan. He just laid there on the ice. He didn't move, but was screaming like a baby.
For the record, no penalty was called on the play and no suspension was assessed by the league after the game.
Still Bob's 'best' player is sidelined for 10 games. At the time the injury occurred Zagrapan's game stats read ... 0 goal, 0 assist, 0 points, 1 shot on net and a minus 2 rating. This is your best player? It might be better to forget him and move on. Try something else.
By the way, Thursday night, game #149. AMERICANS at JETS. Grudge match? Possibly. Retribution? Probably. Should the league offices show a presence at the game (for the Jets benefit at least)? A must!

So Far So Good!
ST.LOUIS - It's been a better start than previous season for the Blues as they find themselves in what may be a close division race. At least they aren't at the bottom just yet. However, there are a few tweaks that need to be done and getting DiDomenico back in a few days will also be a boost. Same can be said about their farm team the Tigers, mind you they did start off well last year before trying to scrape their way into the playoffs in the second half. So far the new coaches that have been put into place seem to be making a difference.

Seals looking to go undefeated
With the Oakland Seals early season success, the question is, how long can they go without a loss? While an undefeated season is an impossiblility, the fact remains that they are the only undefeated team in the circut. Building on last years success, the Seals have roared out of the gates riding the coat-tails of last season's Rookie of the Year, Evgeny Grachev. With 8 points in 4 games he is on his way to another season amongst the league elite.
WIth game results expected any minute now, Seals fans will wake up with the answer to their question....will the Seals stay undefeated, or will they suffer that first defeat tonight.

sim oddities leave veteran gm scratching head.
Toronto Maple Leafs Special Edition Editorial
So i was looking over my first game stats and something caught my eye. My farm team, won 4-0, yet none of my players had +/- ratings, which should mean that all 4 goals were scored on the Powerplay.
I proceed to check my PP stats, and I noticed only 3 of the 4 goals scored were on the PP. So why was the 4th one not considered a +/- stat? Maybe it was an empty netter and the sim doesnt credit +/-? Nah thats not it. I look closer at the score sheet and team stats to try to figure things out.
MAJORS 2 06:34 Kuchejda
MAJORS 3 04:34 Sundh Lampman, Snell
MAJORS 3 07:21 Tsimikalis Scott
MAJORS 3 16:32 Scott Fahey, Tsimikalis
So 4 goal scorers.
Player Name Goals Assists Pts SOG +/- PIM
-----------------------------------------------------------
Justin Scott 1 1 2 7 0 7
David Kuchejda 1 0 1 2 0 2
Oscar Sundh 1 0 1 3 0 0
Peter Tsimikalis 1 1 2 2 0 2
On team stats, I see that everyone but Kuchejda were credited with PP goals. Then it hit me. It must be the good old Unassisted goal. You know these goals right? Many times, these goals are scored by guys who were dressed but not playing, in your lines. The Theory is that these guys come in when a player is in the penalty box, and score by themselves and then go back to the bench. Ive even seen times where a guy scored a goal but wasnt credited with a shot.

So how in the world does he not get a plus to his +/- added? Hes credited with it being the game winner, so what gives???
Just proves that even us Vets are far from figuring this crazy sim out. Perhaps im onto something, but did finding this secret out cost me my job at sportsnet?

Whalers PR
Well the Whalers management would like to welcome everyone back to another wonderful season in the PHL. GM Paul Gagne is very excited to see how all of the new draft picks will perform this season.
To start with after 2 games the top two picks of the off season are leading the team with 3 points each and a +4 rating. Young gun Kyle Clifford has 2 goals and an assist while new centerman Matt Duchene has 2 assists and a goal. Old man river, Gilmour has also contributed with 2 goals while only playing a limited role on the PK.
The Whalers will be relying on the stalwart goaltending of Miller and Rask. The defenseive core will also get a major workout this year with Wennerlof and Lavin leading the way. The addition of the russians, Valabik and Krajicek will be a huge benefit.
Overall coach Quinn understands he will have an up hill battle with this rag tag squad GM Paul Gagne has assembled but sees a lot of potential in the future and wants to play a major role.
All in all the future looks bright for these lowly Whalers and the fans should stay tuned for a rollercoaster season with traditions wins over the lousy Booins.

DIVISON LEADERS!!!
ST.LOUIS - The Blues and their farm club Medicine Hat Tigers are sitting at the top of both their respective leagues (Tigers are tied with the Bobcats). The new pieces put into place from the head coach down to the big free agent signings are looking really good. Both teams are playing both offense and defense with the goalies each getting shutouts already. Unfortunately, its only preseason sigh....... see you at the bottom of the standings =)

STAMPEDE TRADE BLOCK (02)
As amazing as it seems, the Stampede are in talks about one of the two players they said were not tradable. Where that ends up who knows.
We are announcing the fact that we will listen to all offers and feel that this just may be a test by other teams to see if we are serious when we say that.
Team Captain and HOF C Len Socciio as well as goaltender Ilya Proskuryakov are not being moved. The rest of the team is available, even though we are not unhappy with the moves that have been completed.
Offers need to make sense for all involved, so again we will listen to all.

STAMPEDE GO 1 -1 - 0
Commanche (02) The new look Central Texas Stampede took to the ice and came back after 2 games played with a 500 record, a 4-1 win and a 6-2 loss. Overall the tem sits 1-4-0. GM Jazz Matthews is not unhappy at this point, blaming the slow start on League officials for not informing when the pre season would start, allowing him to get his lines in on time. The team went 0-3-0 before that feat could be accomplished, but now that the schedule has been put out, Matthews is confident that some of the trades and signings in the off season will produce results.
FLYERS TRADE BLOCK (02)
Not a lot has changed since our first trade block but as always, willing to listen to any and all
offers. That being said, we have had an inquiry abouy our goalie situation. Flyers will not be trading either of their 1st round picks in PHL11 or
12, unless it was an amazing offer. We have no TC's to pass on and as such would
like to see some included in anything coming back to us. we have no interst in

NEW REGIME TAKES TO THE ICE IN PHILLY
Philadelphia (02) It's true that the management in Philadelphia is the same as the successful Flyers teams of the recent regular season past. It is also true that many of those players still ply their trade at the River Rink. What u=is different however, is the commitment the players have made to each other, that the team will finish first in their division and advance well into the playoffs, aiming for the Cup.
The Flyers are looking for C Joe Thornton to lead this team in all aspects. In the dressing room, on the ice and on the scoreboard, Thornton is expected to be at the top of his game.
Newcomer, dman Pavel Kubina, is expected to put up some big numbers in all categories, even PIMs.
Though the Flyers have three goalies in the crease, GM Jazz Matthews says there is no controversy about the starter. It is Nikolai Khabibulin.

STAMPEDE TRADE BLOCK (01)
The Central Texas Stampede are announcing that they are open for business. It is easier for us to list the non available players rather than the available ones.
Not moving are team captain and HOF Len Soccio and newly signed FA goaltender Ilya Proskuryakov......

TEXAS LOOKING TO AVOID A STAMPEDE
Commanche (01) The Central Texas Stampede are looking to turn it around. Admittedly, the parent club has not paid much attention to the little one, but this season looks to be different. A whole slew of players have left and more have come in. There is 189K FA$$ in the bank and the team is looking to spend it. New Captain and HOF Len Soccio is happy to be here. He was wooed to waive his no trade clause as he listende to what CTS Management had to say about rebuilding and being serious.
GM Jazz Matthews knows there is work to do but vows the eam will contend divisionally this year. Don't write much into the first four games of the year, he says, Our lines were not in place. Matthews stops just short of a Nameth guarantee, but insists that he will not hesitate to make moves to improve the club this season.

FLYERS TROUBLED BY PAST
Philadelphia (01) The Philadelphia Flyers are in a rebulding mode. Not sure if that is a question or a statement. Three seasons ago, Flyers GM Jazz Matthews, stunned many by finishing first overall (57-14-9), putting up punishing offensive numbers on the way. They scored 100 goals more than any other team. Records were burnt, and so was the team. The Flyers lost out to the New York Islanders in the second round, 4 games to 1, putting the regular season efforts on the shelf. The following season, Philly held back on the offensive push but still managed to finish first in the division. They went to the League semi finals that year, losing to the Buffalo Sabres. Less regular season, produced better playoff results. Last season Philadelphia faired about the same during the winter, but come spring had no playoff success..........
.........Fast Forward...........
............As we head into PHL11, the Flyers have a new philosophy. No longer are the draft picks traded. No longer do TC's and FA$ mean nothing. The Organization as a whole cut lose a dozen players, bringing on more than a dozen new faces including Pavel Kubina.
Kubina, 6 9 9 8 9 4 9 9 9 9 7 88, is arguably the best dman in the League.
Deals will be made, but now they will need to make sense.................The team is not rebuilding, just readjusting. Look for a promising season, with promising results.
