Whalers PR

The Whalers would like to announce they have moved the third leading scorer in the Phl last year in order to try and shore up their defense for future as well as the present. We wish to thank Stanislav Chistov for his valiant efforts in getting us to the playoffs and helping us put a beating on those lowly "Booins". We hope that Stanislav can help out the Blue Jackets this year the way he has for us.

The Whalers now would like to welcome Aaron Johnson and P.K. Subban to the organization. Mr. Johnson immediately becomes one of our top 3 D-men, shoring us up for this year and the future. P.K. Subban has such a great upside that the Saints are beside themselves in being able to welcome him. The organization has immediately named Mr. Subban the captain of the Spruce Grove Saints and are really looking forward to an exciting season.

Mr. Gagne did try to move a few other players but realized that he may be affecting the chemistry a little too much and has put a halt on all deals, that is except the last one which sees Maxim Afinogenov moving to the perrenial PHL cup champions, the Maple Leafs. Sending Afinogenov moving back to the Leafs allows the Whalers to move towards the youth the have been so desperate in getting. Coming to the Whalers is Colton Scevior who becomes one of three starting RW's that is 18 yrs old joining Niklas Siren and Patrick Cehlin. The organization is completely excited in how the future is looking.

The youth movement this year also sees Juuson Rajala making the big club and Juha Metsola starting in net for the Saints. Luca Sbisa and P.K. Subban add to the youth movement for the Club. B.J. Crombeen has also been added to the farm to hopefully add some scoring punch to the farm.

Some notable additions to the Whalers are Jeff Halpern (who should add some PK strength) Tuukka Rask (an excellent back up for Miller) and Danny Richmond (who will add some defensive depth). All in all the ticket paying public are somewhat in awe of the moves GM Gagne has done but are treating them with eager anticipation. The majority of the public is just happy Mr. Gagne has not moved the beloved captain, Marek Svatos. We all know Svatos was looking to be moved but Mr. Gagne just couldn't find a deal that worked for the Whalers.

Rumor out of Bruins HO is this is the year.....make or break as far as this administration is concerned.
This Bruins team is deep in all positions. The acquisitions of Spurgeon and Gilmour gives the Bruins a DANGEROUS group manning the middle. Kyle McLaren is simply one of the best dmen in the entire league. Many suspect this could be the MOST dangerous team in the league, with four bonafide snipers on the wings, and a solid core of defense, and one of the best groups of centers in the league.

Gmac is yet to name his Head Coach, many suspect a Bruin great will be named this week. Gmac's experiment behind the bench was a MONUMENTAL failure.

Around the PHL.....

-Well FA period has come and gone. This FA group was considered the BEST ever, and was a definite opportunity for a few teams to close the gap on the groups at the top. Unfortunately, for the most part the strong got stronger. Several lower rung teams are sitting with 600+ thousand FA dollars, and no talent left to spend it on??? Seriously.....did the Bruins add an 8/9 and 9/9 winger for less than 500K combined??? SERIOUSLY....are some of you sleeping at the wheel??? HOW THE HELL AM I UNEMPLOYED??? SERIOUSLY??? LIKE SERIOUSLY????
-10 Teams have been CUT loose. LA, Vancouver, Quebec and Hamilton will be missed....solid franchises....the rest??? Good riddance.....there are enough PLUGS in the Western Conference.....

-Speaking of Plugs....how about that Smythe??? Combined winning percentage of that division last year??? How about a WHOPPING .461!!! UGLY.....Oilers take it, Running away....and that is pathetic!!!

Blackhawks Big Spenders

We are here with the GM Of the Blackhawks. GM Brent is very satisfied with what he has done this offseason. He has brought in many new faces mainly to the Oil Kings roster but there is one new face that will be playing on the Blackhawks roster next season. With all the new signings that i managed to pull off somehow we believe that we have strengthened both teams very much and we hope that they will perform like they should.

The first key offsignin that GM Brent managed to pull off was the signing of farm RW Sergei Kostitsyn.

12 Sergei Kostitsyn 0 R RW 3 8 3 4 1 1 8 2 8 2 8 48 ($400 000) we seen him as the strongest farm rw available and we were able to put a high enough bid on him that no other team could counter it even.Adding him the Oil Kings roster should see a lot more scoring from them this season and hopefully making them that much better. We are hoping that he will contribute and help others rerate very well. We see him as a farmer for life with his overall being so low and only need one atb to have 9qk/9sk/9pc/9sh. We are expecting him to get to that after his first season with the Oil Kings.

After the signing of Kostitsyn GM Brent took a look at the free agency market and seen that there was many more big names on the market still so he figured he would throw out a few contract offers to see what would happen. GM Brent went after a solid PRO LW that will make a solid penalty killer for this next season.

19 Boyd Kane 0 L LW 8 6 7 5 7 2 6 5 7 9 8 70 ($70 000) We are expecting him to add some toughness to this roster and being able to check will make him solid on the penalty kill while he still has the talent to be a top goal scorer. We will soon see who will make the roster out of Kane and Belesky. We will determine this after we see there performances in pre-season.

While GM Brent was trying to sign Kane he had another off out for stud farm lw Chris Kunitz. While he was not the only team interested in signing Kunitz.

3 Chris Kunitz 0 L LW 8 6 6 5 6 2 6 3 8 5 7 62 ($252 000) Kunitz is being brought in for his offensive out put which is what the Oil Kings needed last season that let them down when they hit the playoffs. Will this team score a lot more this season or will it take the team a while to get some chemistry with all these new faces being brought into the team. Only time will tell.

After the signing of Kunitz GM Brent went out and picked up a young farm goalie that he had originally drafted and then traded away.

24 Kurt Mucha 0 L G 6 9 7 6 9 2 7 4 8 - - 58 ($80 000) Kurt Mucha looks better than when he was originally drafted and though he may not see much ice time with Steve Mason being the starter but now GM Brent has options if one of them starts struggling. Will these two goalies make the difference for this season in whether the team goes somewhere or if it doesnt.

After all these signings GM Brent looked over the FA and his rosters and noticed that they could use one more strong checker on the defensive end. GM Brent wasted no time putting an offer on defenceman Brendan Mikkelson and we are hoping that he decides to sign with us. With a bidwar going on between the Blackhawks and Canadiens to see who will get this nice solid defenceman that many rosters could use.

Spending cash this time around

Columbus, Oh cajn This may be a first for the Blue Jackets as GM Colston has pulled out his check book during this off season.

He invested 300K in Tomas Vokoun, a top notch netminder that will surely aid the Blue Jackets in the up coming season. With two 9/9 goalies and a 8/8 pine rider, the Jackets will expect many more wins next season.

The Jackets also sent 200K to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a PHL10 2ND RND pick. This could turn out to be a nice pick since the Leafs will not contend for the top team this year. With contraction, that pick should elevated from a 60th pick to a 40th one. Maybe GM Colston should try to trade this pick to the Hartford Whalers. I hear the telephone ringing now!

Vokoun hits the road

Years of mismanaging the Stars have lead to this move. Our lack of assets and monies have kept us from being active in the free agent market or entry draft. Look for us to be big players in the FA market this season now that we have a little mula. As far as Vokoun goes, we believe he was a benefactor of our defensive system. He lead the league in gaa and save percentage but posted no shutouts during the regular season and disappeared in the playoffs like Houdini. Future moves could be in the works but in a league where moves are often mocked for being stupid or rape acqusations are thrown around things could stay quiet in Minny.

His Wish Was Granted

Columbus, OH cajn: Wow, are you kidding me, does GM Colston have a old dusty lamp that he rubs every now an then? If there ever was a time to eat humble Crow, now is it.

I would have bet the farm that GM Colston would have stayed out of the running for Tomas Vokoun. With that being said, I can't believe the GM Colston and the Jackets were able to land the #1 goalie of the PHL9 season for a mere $300k.

GM Colston was unavailable for comment, but the behind the scenes Coach, Don Cherry had a few words.

Mr. Cherry, Who do you think are the stars in the front office for bring Vokoun to Columbus? "As you know Joe, I don't hold anything back. As to your question, No. 1 - the Zamboni driver. No. 2 - an usher. No 3. - a guy selling popcorn."

I know I'm going to regret this, but it goes. Is there anything that gets your blood pressure up and causes you to say bad words? "You mean words like shit, hell, son of a. I better stop and keep my lips together at this point. You know GM Colston says that he is the only one who can curse. Do you remember the draft a few days ago, he was on a roll."

Wow Don, I'm a little surprised that you didn't say more. "Nah I’ll be nice tonight Joe … it would be far better to act all reserved, then break out in a D- Mack-like verbal diarrhea explosion. you know, that way we can live up to our Classy image."

The Jackets can now focus the up coming FA Draft. With very deep pockets, look for GM Colston to go all out and find the Jackets a RW and D.

The Wolverines could could use up-grades as well. A solid D-man and C will help the farm club.

Tomas Vokoun to Columbus, GM Colston only wishes

Columbus, OH cajn: Is GM Colston stirring the pot again or is he truly going after goalie, Tomas Vokoun? In a rebuilding year, I doubt that GM Colston will spend his money on a aging net minder.

It seems more logical to me that GM Colston use his resources to shore up the Jackets Defensive short comings.

The jackets are in need of a top line winger, so I'm confident that Vokoun will not be heading to Columbus.

As free agency approaches with many teams eager to jump in and try to get the players that they need to be a contender. While the Blackhawks have made one trade to make there team ready to go for the season as it looks as the Hawks will be staying put and watching everyone else battle it out to grab that final roster player that they need. With all the positions filled GM brent is ready for pre-season to see how the newly rerated players play on there respective teams. Will this finally be the year that the Hawks can actually fight off the maple leafs and actually make it somewhere this season. Only time will tell now. Look for more news in the near future.
