Rockies Limp Into Playoffs

Despite having the 3rd worst record in the PHL, the Colorado Rockies have crept into the post-season, securing a date with the Oakland Seals.

"Thank God we're in the same division as the Winnipeg Jets!" GM Justin Livingston was heard saying at a media scrum yesterday.

The Rockies will start the playoffs on the road in Oakland, where they're the heavy underdog... most thinking they'll be lucky to grab a game or 2 in the series.

"We finished 1-4 against the Seals this season, so we're due for a bit of luck... I think we stack up well against them... we could surprise a few people," said coach Tim Hunter, "we're going to do whatever it takes to beat those bastards... I'll slap the skates back on if I have to get out there and crack some heads, I will... whatever it takes... these Seals want a series, believe me, they got one!"

Well, it seems the trash talking has started. We'll see if the Rockies have the horses to back it up. Let's just say, this reporter has some serious doubts.

ST.LOUIS - Well it was a valiant effort by the big Blues as they went on a 9 game undefeated streak to finish the season but the Blue Jackets managed to win 3 out of the 5 games to take the last playoff spot by 1 pt. However, it was a better ending then the previous season when the season was over barely halfway into the second season. There is optimism for this team next year. The baby Blues (Tigers) might have snuck their way into the playoffs based on the final standings they are tied with the Oil Kings but scored a few more goals in their campaign.

ST.LOUIS - Literally, the Blues and their farm team are either dead or alive. Both teams are down to 4 games each to make the playoffs. The Tigers just like the Blues are now relying on their backup goaltender to get them into the next round. Will they make it is another question, although hockey analysts don't see it happening in either case but anything can happen. At least its better than the previous season when the playoffs ended barely after the halfway mark.

Well this sure is a disappointing season so far. I guess as a GM I really have my head firmly planted up my posterior. I am happy for the Sens and their season so far and am greatly disgusted in the play of a few of my own players.

The youth movement we as an organization are trying sure isn't looking good right now but I guess I must learn patience, this will be as hard as climbing Mt Everest in a speedo. The only bright light so far is that the boys stepped up against the Adam's division leaders (and possible cup winners) those lousy Booins. A great season series that went 3-2 for the Whalers. Just a little more cheddar for the coffers (only to possibly have it disappear at the end of this year unless there is a stellar free agent available).

I really hope the boys can get it together by the end of the year or we will not make the playoffs. Making the playoffs is always a goal of the Whalers even if we make a quick exit, getting there is important, VERY IMPORTANT. The youth of this team have to step up in the forward positions. Our LW are terrible (probably worst group in the league). Goaltending is decent but has faultered at times and the D has not lived up to expectations. If the record of our farm team is any indication of what is to come, again this youth movement may need to be reexamined.

Leafs giving other teams cup chance

This season's run at the cup turns was in question at the start of the season for the Leafs. In fact, the focus was on the farm team. Management now feels the pro cup isnt the cards for this team and therefore will be selling off some key assets.

There are benifits for teams to have retirees that some gms may not be thinking about

--Waivers:: Since retirees are not part of the waiver draft, its a position spot you can use to protect another player instead.
--Protection spots:: you dont need to use a rerate protection spot on a retiree, thus freeing up a possible spot for another player.
---rerates:: Need to bench a guy whos hit his rerate targets but wish you could replace him with a high talented player to ensure others on the line still get their point totals up? Retirees do just that.

What are we looking for in return? As with our farm assets, we are open to any offer, with draft picks, tcs, farmers being the main needs, that way you do not need to lose any top player on your pro team.

 The Majors season hasnt gone as expected, and with the possiblity of not making the playoffs, even with a .500+ record, we have to consider moving these top assets. These players very well could help a team possibly win the cup or get to the finals (both teams win a those elusive farm draft picks). They might help boost a few linemates rerates as well.
