PHL 9 has been a year of surprises....well for the Americans anyways. Never before have the Americans finished above the .400 level in win percentage. Feat accomplished. Never before have the Americans made the playoffs. Feat accomplished. Never before have the Americans won their division. Feat accomplished. A little too soon and premature in the Americans grand plan for respectability. But we will definitively accept it. Not to mention team records set this season as feeble as they might appear.
In PHL 7, the Americans expansion year, Brooklyn was lapped by the entire league and fell across the finish line playing a woeful .119 hockey and finishing dead last. Obviously no playoff spot. PHL 8 saw Brooklyn accumulate a 34 point improvement in the standings (which was great), but with a winning percentage below.400 the Americans, gasping for air, stumbled to a second last overall finish. Once again no playoff spot.
Believe it or not the Americans have an invitation to the PHL 9 grand ball this season with a top seed in their division and their dance card punched by the owner less Barons. This is all new to the Americans, players and management. The playoff jitters will be there. Will there be a quick first round exit? Is there that much of a difference in the game from the regular season to the playoffs? Does Brooklyn have to experience losing to learn how to win on this stage? Most American players competed in the PHL 8 farm final (and lost it), is there that much of a difference in the hype and gamesmanship? If Brooklyn does get upset will the choke lable be applied to them? Absolutely! On all counts.
But we are ecstatic to be apart of it. No matter what happens.

Can we end the regular season with a strong finish
With just four games remaining in the regular season, can the Wolverines finish strong?
The Wolverines will play a quad header on the last day of the season. If the can produce two wins and earn just 5 of a possible 8 pints, they will leapfrog over the Tigers and finish out the season in 3RD place in the Pacific Division.
PACIFIC Division
GP W L T GF GA PTS PCT LAST 10 STREAK
MAJORS 79 44 29 6 307 245 94 .595 6-4-0 2G winning
OIL KINGS 80 43 33 4 315 273 90 .563 7-3-0 2G losing
TIGERS 80 31 41 8 259 284 70 .438 4-5-1 2G winning
WOLVERINES 76 30 41 5 241 293 65 .428 1-7-2 4G winless
SPIRIT 77 27 40 10 239 293 64 .416 1-7-2 6G winless
The standings show the Wolverines are winless in their last four games, but in the last two games they have earned 2 points. Lets take a peek and see how their chances are at finishing 3RD.
Their 1ST game is at home, as they host the Grizzlies. The results of this should be a win, but these are the type of teams that have nothing to lose and will come out ready to play for pride. I'll call this game tie.
The final 3 will be road games. A double header with the Blades, and then on to play the Spirit. The Blades who have made it into the playoffs with just 20 wins, just might be out played by the Wolverines. Even being out played, the Blades will come away with 1win.
So, it comes down to the final game to see if the Wolverines can finish strong. Now we wait and see what happens

Blackhawks Press Release
The Blackhawks have 1 game left to there season. There is a lot of things that need to be accomplished before the season ends. Erik Staal needing his one assist still to keep his 9 pa. Laliberte needing 10 shots and to keep his shooting% up to stay at 9/9. Will this all happen?? Blackhawks are almost below .500 what happened to this team? Blackhawks are sitting 4th overall in the league as of now. Makes it easier for them in the waiver.
The Oil Kings season is over. After acquiring steve mason the whole season was turned around. They almost exceeded that .600 win mark again. Look for both the Blackhawks and Oil kings to come out firing in the play offs.

Looking forward to the post season
As the end of regular season nears, the Blue Jackets are looking forward to playing in the post season. It's been a rough year with the loss of Forsberg and a couple of other players, not to mention the departure of GM Colston.
Now that GM Colston is back, does he sit back and let Coach Don Cherry finish running the season or will he jump into the mix and try to upset the Mighty Leafs?
I sat down with both GM Colston and coach Cherry today in a rare interview to see if the two of them are on the same page as the Jackets head into the playoffs.
Cupp A Joe: Welcome back Mr. Colston. Are you back for good, or is this a temporary stay of execution?
GM Colston: Welcome back, what are you talking about Cupp? I really never left, I just needed to take a step back and rejuvenate myself.
Cupp A Joe: Speaking of taking a step back, how about those Bruins?
GM Colston: That was a low blow Cupp, even for you. Is that some kind of news story? I did predict them to finish last in their Division as I recall. So much for their GM being smarter.
Cupp A Joe: How did you predict the Norris to end up sir?
GM Colston: I pretty much hit that prediction dead nuts balls accurate.
1Leafs
2Red Wings
3BlackHawks
4Blue Jackets
5Blues
The only difference is the Hawks will finish 2nd and the Wings will finish 3rd.
Cupp A Joe: Were you really worried about how this years teams would finish?
GM Colston: I consulted coach Cherry on that matter Cupp. He had told me that there was no way in Hell the Jackets would make the post season in his opinion. Sure after losing Forsberg and the other guys, I knew things were bad in Columbus.
I made a couple of terrible deals, I wasan't sure how the guys would react. Coach Cherry deserves a pat on the back for what he has accomplished this season.
Cupp A Joe: Coach Cherry, do you have any comments about the fall of the Bruins?
Coach Cherry: We have a team named Bruins in the PHL?
Cupp A Joe: You may get some hate mail after that statement sir.
Coach Cherry: Everyone grab a 6 pack and shut the hell up! I'm glad to have GM Colston returning to run the day to day operations of the Jackets. Bring on those whining bitches that call themselves the Leafs.
Cupp A Joe: So the Jackets are ready for the Leafs, coach?
Coach Cherry: Not sure about that, I just hate not being able to show off my suits. This is not live television Cupp, and everyone knows how great I dress.
Cupp A Joe: Ok then, any predictions for round one?
Coach Cherry: Jackets pulling off an upset over the Leafs in 6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There you have hockey fans. Not sure what coach Cherry was smoking, but pass it my way.

Whalers PR
Sorry I haven't spoken up lately but I have been a bit busy working with this team.
Our GM, Mr Gagne, is a complete genius in my humble opinion. To be able to acquire Afiny at the deadline is an amazing coup. Then with this recent schelaking of the terrible "BOOINS" and Afiny picking up 3 points on 4 shots and quite possibly putting the last nail in their playoff coffin is nothing short of FANTASTIC.
I would love to gush further on the tremendous attributes of our fantastic GM, Mr Paul Gagne, but unfortunately we still have some work to do and I will get back to ya all in the playoffs, I'm sure of it.

Don't let the facts get in the way of a good rant, Dougie Slack!
Doug the Slug is very quick to point out that first place teams in other divisions wouldn't even be fourth in the Adams. Alas, my compadre is accurate on that fact. Too bad he doesn't check em all...We will just deal with the Patrick Division leading Flyers. Though we would be in tough, standing wise, let's look at the record. What's that? Are you serious? The Flyers are 7-6-2 against the Adams?.....True! Now break it down...500 vs the Sabres (1-1-1), took the season series against the Habs (2-1-0) and undefeated against the Whale (2-0-1).
What does that leave? Yes Virginia, we lost to the Nords and the Bruins (both 1-2-0). The silver lining, our win against the Bruins was an ass kicking 11-4! What's that? OH! RIGHT! They are not making the playoffs. That makes the Quebec Nordiques our only nemesis in the Adams.....BRING ON THE PLAYOFFS!

Opportunity Knocks
Now Dougie Mac. You must think carefully through that drunken haze. After being abandoned, the good ship Blue Jackets has actually played better with no one at the helm. No one has claimed salvage rights on her (all ships are defined as female, seems to make sense here) so wouldn't you jump at the opportunity. You can always sink the Blue Jackets again later if she springs more leaks.
The Product(cal) Son has Returned???
Dougie Mac here in Beantown....DRUNK & PISSED!!!
The Bruins are all but eliminated from the playoffs, and my boy GMAC is looking like he may be fired!!!
To compound this, the lowly Whalers; who are SURE to be swept in four; are running their mouths?!?!?! Sluggie??? That the best you got GAG-ne???
Now I am hearing that Warren “G” Colst-EN, is making a return??? How does that GUY get re-hired??? Better yet, how does he SHOW HIS FACE??? He single handidly destroyed a franchise??? Then he disappears to become a candle and greeting card mogul, and now he's back??? For what??? Jackets are the worst franchise in the LEAGUE!!!
At least the Blues have futures??? Bruins must be SALIVATING at the opportunity to use that 1st round pick next year.....WELCOME BACK!!!!
I, Douglas MacLean, Jack Adams finalist, hockey insider, and all around NICE GUY, cannot get a job!!! What has this world come to??? SERIOUSLY.....no SERIOUSLY!!!
The Bruins are still set, this is simply a speed bump....GMAC is the man!!!

Well the end of the world must be near and it's still 2 years until 2012.
The so called terrible Whalers not only beat the "strong" Nords but actually shut them out. WHAT!!! Yes I said SHUT THEM OUT. Like I have said in the past when everyone thought I was off my rocker, we are for real and are gunning for the cup.
We as an organization can't wait to see the lowly Booins fall out of the playoffs and STAY OUT!!
Everyone keep looking over your shoulders the Whalers are in high gear and ready to steamroll the competition.

GM Brent sits here wondering if Eric Staal will be able to pick up that 1 assist he needs to keep his 9 pa. Though i am more getting prepared for the playoff run we are hoping to make as a team. After losings tonights game GM brent wonders what he has to do to consistently win. He will be preparing his team very well for the play offs while they will be having many practices and hoping to have there fitness up to par so that they will not be slowed down during the games or worn out. Will he push them to hard that the players will be burnt out by the time playoffs come. James Neal is very excited to finally be back in the lineup to try and help this team win their first cup since GM Brent has taken over. He will be dressing his best line up he possibly can to make these play offs the best yet for them.

Bruins FALLIN.....FALLIN'....FALLIN!!!!
The Boston Bruins have all but lost the playoff race.
A mere 20 games ago the Bruins were sitting in third, several games ahead of both the Sabres and Whalers.
Fast forward to today, the Sabres win 18 in a row, the Whalers winning at over .700 as of late...combine that with a Bruins slump....and it looks like a team that on paper is a contender is gonna be hitting the links sooner rather than later.
Rumours out of Boston are that GM/Head Coach George MacIntyre is on the prverbial HOT SEAT. His wheeling and dealing has produced....NOTHING!!!
The final straw may bave been the deal that sent the Farm (too many 1st rounders to count, and Larose) to the Leafs for Marty St. Louis. The Bruins are 2-7-1 since Louis showed up....OUCH.
Will the Bruins dump MacIntyre??? Can the GM convince the owners to keep him on board???

Blackhawks Press Release
GM Brent is still waiting on Eric Staal to get that last assist. He can manage to score every game but he can't manage to get that last assist. David Laliberte still looking to get 13 more shots to keep his 9 pc but in the last 5 games he hasnt even managed to get a shot on net. Will he even get 13 shots in the last few games of the season. The Blackhawks yet again beat the Maple Leafs in yesterdays games 6-4. Its nice to see that this team can still beat an elite squad. Went into tonights games needing wins which they did get with there one win in the only game they had to play. Everyone is looking good now as the season comes to an end and playoffs then starting.
The Oil Kings have not even missed Eberle yet. It has just made Vladmir Sobotka finally start scoring again. In the 2 games played tonight they won both games with Alex Petroangelo picking up 5 assists to put his assists totals on the season at 50. He has had his best season so far since being drafted into the league. Will he stay on farm or become a pro dman next season. With everyone on the farm playing very well it 6 games remaining in the season as it looks like they will be making the playoffs.

World Championships
ST.LOUIS - The Blues obviously will not be making the playoffs this year unless they decide to go on a tear winning the last bunch of games, followed by the Jackets losing a bunch of games, a highly unlikely scenario following a trade deadline that saw them rent their veterans off to contenders in return for some future prospects and players.
Some of the Blues will start their golf season early, while others will continue playing hockey a bit longer as they are called to represent their countries in the World Championships. Some notables will be John Tavares, Sam Gagner, Alex Tanguay for Canada, Patrik Elias for Czech and Niklas Backstrom for Finland (pending how the farm team does in their playoffs if any). Marion Gaborik would have played for Slovakia but got cut in the leg trying to jump over Glass (no pun intended) who was making a save during a shootout drill in practice.

The Oil Kings came out to play tonight knowing that they had to play two games. They came out and won both games even stomping division rival the majors. With Eberle finally getting assist number 35 on the season and now most likely heading the bench til play off time. How will the oil kings play and produce with a different center in filling the hole in for Eberle. Pietroangelo is headed for his best season ever in the league and yet as an oil kings, it took him a while to finally get going with this team but after acquiring eberle he just took off picking up assists almost every game. Can he continue to shine with eberle out for season?
The Blackhawks came into tonights games looking strong, in the first game they managed to beat the canucks with no trouble but somehow in the second game could not figure out how to score enough goals to beat the Blue Jackets. Though there was two positive things that came out of tonights games and they were that Eric Staal is now only 1 assist away from being a 9/9 center next year and matt niskanen is slowly getting closer to his assist numbers that he needs. He started off the year not knowing how to pass all he could do was score and now he is racking up the assists and getting the odd goal. Continue to watch the blackhawks progress to be better and reach the playoffs hopefully again.

LOWLY FLYERS?!?!?!
A win, is a win, is a win......we might even change our minds and hope for the Bruins to get that last spot.....or maybe not, the LOWLY FLYERS took the season series with the WHALERS...
180. WHALERS 1, FLYERS 6
530. FLYERS 6, WHALERS 3
685. FLYERS 5, WHALERS 5
See you soon...if you make it......
Whalers PR
Well, well, well. The Whalers are really excited with our recent acquisitions once again. I know it's only the first day but two wins is awesome.
Our two new players have amassed 9 points in the two games. The one game that stands out is the 9-3 drubbing of the Capitals when the lowly Flyers could only beat them 4-3. Our boys are quickly becoming men and are already playoff ready.
What happen to the terrible Bruins. Oh thats right, nobody cares! Watch them continue to drop like the lead anchors they are.
The battle of the frenchies last night goes to the Nords and gives the Habs two losses last night. Do you hear the crash on the horizon.

The Adams Divisional race is kicked into high gear and the Whalers are pressing hard on the accelerator.

Deadline - Deaad and Gone
Dispite efforts and emails, Flyers GM Jazz Matthews was unable to get the right winger that he covets. "There were no replies to any of the emails, not even the ridiculous just to say HA!", said Matthews. It is true that the Flyers were not going to trade any big names, except in the case of Mike Richards and like Matthews said, "NO replies...NONE".
The Flyers did make one trade however, acquiring 19 year old rookie centerman Greg NEMISZ (L C 6 9 7 7 9 4 9 6 8 7 8 80). "He is right wing eligible next season and though his PA PC numbers are not quite there, we feel he will fit in nicely with Zetts (Henrik Zetterberg) and Thorny (Joe Thornton)". It is true that it cost the Flyers two draft picks but Matthews thinks the pickings are slim anyway.
The one other addition that Matthews feels was key is 9/9 goaltender
Nikolai Khabibulin. "The fact that he is a 70 OV is a bonus as well. We would have been happy in the 64 to 66 range. Then Habby comes in with 11-3 and 6-1 wins over the Canadiens and the Bruins". Matthews added, " This year, we have no expectations. We blasted the League last year and were gone in round one, the same happened the year before. This year we played our game. Solid and planned. Somwetimes it worked and sometimes not but what we do have this year that we haven't had for a while is protection spots....our core guys don't have to worry, but this season we should be able to help an underachiever or two and Habby might fit that glove. Let's face it, his stats coming in were not that great and we can't get him in enough games to make a difference here".
The Flyers looked poised to move beyond round one and has one team in their sites.....

Blackhawks Press Releasem (Post Trade Deadline)
GM Brent stayed pretty quiet in the last week before the trade deadline as he seen the leafs ship out 2 very nice wingers that any team would galdly have on there teams. All i was able to do was make my situation for the waivers much more clear. Trading Claude Giroux and Steve Montador for once hawk J.D Forrest, Petr Sykora, and Dustin Penner. This trade made sure that the Hawks actually acquired something for Giroux instead of just loosing him the waivers. Penner was the farm rw that GM Brent had been looking for a long time now and finally acquired it. The only other trade that GM Brent was able to do was a minor trade acquiring Saku Koivu from the moose for cash to help out the farm for centers. With all these deals going down GM Brent made sure to keep his pro team intact to maybe finally pass the Leafs once and for all with them shipping out some key wingers. Only time will tell now whether the hawks sneak past the leafs or will they continue to fall.

Whalers PR
Well for my first trade deadline, this was rather crazy. The Whalers have, in our opinion, have made a few necessary moves in order to get past those terrible Bruins.
The addition of Afinogenov could be the stud we need. With him came a great addition to our farm team in Simon Gagne. We only had to give up a farm center and of course some future in 4 second round picks. I had a bit of the shakes in getting rid of the picks but if it helps me get past the "Fruitins" and make the playoffs and then take a run at those frenchies, WE WILL BE VERY PLEASED.
Picking up rental player Riku Hahl should also assist in Afiny get the necessary points needed.
The farm team acquisitions are just to comply with minimum roster standards but I am hoping they will help the team make a little run at the PMHL playoffs and then make some noise there.
All in all the Whalers organization looks like it is getting warmed up and primed to make a run. Look out Adam's division, the Whalers are not done making things uncomfortable for you. Streaks and great line combinations may just beat out "talent".

Leafs appear to be looking towards the future
This just in, Leafs deal away their 2 best players to 2 Adams division teams.
Both Marty St louis and Max Afinigenov are moved.
Reactions across the league could be summed up as such.
--- Blackhawks GM is rubbing his hands together at the opportunity to breeeeeze to the cup finals
---rest of league pissed at Leafs that Hawks now have easier shot to the cup finals
---Adams division team missing playoffs could be .600 or higher winning record, would be a first.
---Buffalo left empty handed after the deadline, wonders how on earth could his team go 13-0 and still miss the playoffs?? Damn you Kyle!!!
---Jets GM saying how no way in hell is he paying that much for a 9/9 winger...9/9's are overrated!!
---Blues rethinking about Kabi-bulin deal.
---Stars GM surprised the Leafs are actually still in the league.
---Ott gm wants to change name in order to not have to join the Adams next year.
---Americans GM still not sure what to do with his team. Sell? Buy?
Though there are some who say this team still can compete in the playoffs.
We, we find out soon. Then again, theres still 24 hours until the deadline is over. The trading party may be far from done.

Ottawa Looking To Deal
Ottawa has made it know that they would be taking offers on the Columbus Bluejackets 1st round pick. Ottawa is said to be looking to land a winger for their playoff push. The pick could be packed with players if the right player dangled. Feel free to offer up a stud!

Blackhawks Press Release
The blackhawks continue to loose with varlamov back in net. The team once that could out score any other team has been stopped. Has all the other rosters finally figured out how to beat this booming squad. Will GM Brent get pissed and ship out someone good at the deadline. At this time any offer on any of the players on the blackhawks will be looked at and considered. If you are interested in any of my pro players let me know and what you are willing to offer.
Now on a four game losing streak sure isnt helping us get past the leafs who sent out their top rw in st.louis. They still know how to win without there top winger, why cant my team figure out how to win with the starting goaltender in net. Should there be a swap of goalies again?
Going 2-7-1 in the last 10 games sure doesnt look like a contending team to me.
The real question is will the blackhawks be sellers at the trade deadline?
No one ever knows what GM Brent's next move is.

Blues PR
ST.LOUIS - Blues continue to rebuild, shipping out Eric Perrin and Mike Van Ryn to the Maple Leafs for farm prospect Vadim Sushko and Ivan Baranka. Both Perrin and Van Ryn should bolster the Leafs scoring even more, not that they are really needed. As the trade deadline nears a few more pieces could be shipped out especially to teams who are in waiver spots or lack the ability to protect their players.

Islanders / Crushers trade block
The Islanders are in the tank and looking to re-build with the help of the continued success of the Crushers. We have the following assets, looking for picks, TCs, upgrades on the farm at D and back-up goalie.
Blackhawks need not bother!
We've got depth at C and he hasn't really fit in the way we had hoped. Come big or stay home!
76 Scott Nichol 1+ R C 8 7 8 9 9 2 7 9 9 8 5 81
Needs a change of scenery, hasn't lived up to former 1st round pick status since he's been up in PRO. Need any PRO RW in return.
21 Fredrik Naslund 1- L RW 6 8 6 6 6 4 8 5 8 8 5 70
Too many D-man with similar attributes, had a great PHL8, suffering as the rest of the Islanders are: Need any PRO D in return.
Another guy needing a change. Need a FARM LW in return.
1 Shawn Limpright 2- R LW 3 6 6 6 5 7 9 1 6 6 8 63
Surprised he's one here? Bet he is too, since he's the Crushers captain! Emergence of Teubert and DelZotto makes him expendable. Need a sound defensive FARM D.
Oil Kings Press Release
Steve Mason has been the story in net since he has been put in. Making this team finally stop loosing. Jordan Eberle has been a non-stop goal scorer since being acquired and is looking very well down the stretch. Everyone on the team as of late has been contributing to each and every win. Mason has looked shaky at times in net but the offence always seems to bail him out. Will there be more minor tweaks to the farm before the trade deadline is over? Will GM Brent make a huge deal for the Blackhawks to try for the cup? Only time will now tell what happens in this town. Will he just stick with the team he has on both pro and farm and try to get stronger in the off-season. Well as of now the blackhawks are looking to acquire a farm center it can be a scrub just in need of a center.

-Buyers & Sellers......

Hawks – I think this is the team to beat....ugh for the SANITY of the entire PHL I hope I am wrong..
