Don Cherry is fined $500,000 by GM Colston

Columbus, OH cajn Blue Jackets Head Coach Don Cherry was fined 10 percent of his contract today by GM Colston for a statement that he made about a new GM joining the League.

GM Colston, in a move that will surely put a strain on the relationship between him and Cherry, has fined his head coach $500,000 for saying a disparaging comment about the Rangers new GM. Cherry was quoted saying "I don't give a BLEEEP about him".

"The guy that's behind the Jackets bench coaching my team will not voice his opinions about another American taking over as a GM while I'm here." GM Colston said in a telephone interview. Colston went on to say that if Cherry can't cork his mouth, he would cork it for him!

GM Vacany Filled in Oakland

Oakland (AP) A changing of the guard occurred this week in Oakland, with now former GM Neill Hosford being fired. Jim Richardson, formerly GM of the Edinburgh Fury of the EMFHL, is taking over the reins for the Seals. Richardson, 35 and hailing from Whitby, Ontario has laid claim to 3 Prime Ministers Cups in the EMFHL after taking over an expansion team 8 seasons ago, and hopes to bring success to an Oakland franchise looking for some direction. His first moves.....no moves at all, leaving all coaching and press staffing as is. Richardson said, "I've got to figure out what the h*ll is going on before firing people!"

New GM for the Rangers?

Columbus, OH cajn- After a surprise GM signing for the Rangers, I must admit that I didn't know that we still had a team named the "Rangers in the PHL?

It's not surprising that they have a new GM. What is surprising is the fact that the PHL offices had to seek out an American to fill a small void let by the prior GM.

Let it be known, that a revolution is taking hold. What say me, you asked. This makes it the third American GM to join this league. Welcome to the league Mr. Smalley and I'm sure that you will return the Rangers to a solid contending team again.

When ask about the signing, GM Colston said "Chris is one of those rare GM's that can back this way into anything." Then Jackets head coach, Don Cherry had to chim in. "I don't give a BLEEEP about him" he said.

NY Rangers Announce New GM, Captain

The New York Rangers are pleased to announce the hiring of Chris Smalley as their new General Manager. A life-long native of suburban Minneapolis, Minnesota, Smalley becomes only the third American GM in PHL history. Prior to joining the PHL, Smalley was a GM and Head Coach in the EMFHL for 16 seasons, and led his teams to the Prime Minister's Cup Playoffs in 8 of his last 9 seasons. His team made 2 Finals appearances, but was unable to claim the title on both tries.

"When I received the call and was told I got the job, I was very excited! The New York Rangers have a rich and storied history, and I'm thrilled to be a part of this great hockey club," Smalley said. "With all struggles this team has had this season, some changes will certainly have to be made. That means we may have to make so tough decisions when it comes to coaches and players. I don't want to single anyone out, but I will start with a top-down approach - and go from there."

Rangers GM Chris Smalley also announced that the team has voted RW Marian Hossa as the team's new captain. "I was happy to see the team selected Hossa. In the short time that I've met Marian, I got the sense that he is a good team leader. And to get the confidence from his team-mates with this vote, it confirms my impression of him as a team leader. We are excited to have Marian as our team captain."

Whalers Trade Block

The Whalers are officially putting Marek Svatos on the block and are looking at getting a #1 center. We have had some sniffs already and want to give everyone a shot. I will weight all offers and take the heaviest, lol. My interests are well documented as far as what type of players I like. So try and keep that in mind when you make an offer.

Well I guess my little experiment with the rookies isn't quite working as well as I had planned. This idea of building a new team of my own players is not showing well on the scoreboard. Oh well. I still think that in the long run my plan will achieve my goals it just might take a season or two and in the mean time I will just have to be satisfied with little moral victories along the way. For example: beating up on the Senators (tough break getting into this Division), taking it to the lowly Booins (could be a little tougher this year but we are up for it) and of course doing my best to pound those guys from the belle provance ( or however those frenchies say it).

Our record may not be where we want to be but we have long considered this to be a building year and Mr. Svatos is not too pleased about that. I think he had hoped to be challenging for the cup by now and I don't see that happening just yet. We of course would like to give him a chance at that elusive cup if there are any takers. We are still looking for youth and or picks so if any of you contenders are looking for some extra scoring, drop me a line.

Stars news

The Northstars are faring well in our new division so far this season. The team is playing as we expected with our current roster. The departure of netminder Vokoun has had no negative effect on the team due to the outstanding play of old geezer Chris Osgood. Our assesment of an over rated playoff chokin Vokoun seem to be accurate as Osgood is among the league leaders in gaa and save percentage and Vokoun is conspicuously missing from the league leaders list. That being said we do have a problem. Our corps of centers is not deep enough to be taking the penalties that they are so therefore we are in the market for a new #1 centre and are putting Peter Mueller on the block along with Dustin Boyd. One of these guys needs to go for a center who'll be on the ice in special team situations as well as not putting the team down a man constantly. Heres the digits, Mueller is the guy we really want to move here.
