Forsberg wont play Saturday for the Blue Jackets

COLUMBUS, Oh. (cajn)—Peter Forsberg acknowledged feeling better about his progress Friday but not enough to consider getting back into uniform for the Columbus Blue Jackets this week.

The 37-year-old Forsberg, who is considering a comeback with the Blue Jackets, ruled out any chance of his being back when Columbus plays on Saturday.

“I want to be out there and be on the ice to help the team,” Forsberg said. “If I didn’t feel that way there’s something wrong.”

Forsberg worked out with the team again, taking part in drills and even exchanging hard checks with Dan Spang, who has been pretty excited about Forsberg' return. These drills were meant to test Forsberg' reconstructed foot Spang said.

“He was rough on me,” Spang said. “Once he puts that helmet on, he looks pretty good out there.”

A year ago, Forsberg wanted to return and wear his Blue Jacket Jersey once again, but his foot was to sore for him to take the daily abuse of the PHL.

Forsberg said he would skate again Saturday morning. Beyond that, coach Don Cherry said there was no timetable for Forsberg’ return.

“I’ve seen gradual improvement every time he stepped on the ice,” Cherry said. “He will make the decision, the right decision at the appropriate time.”
