Less than 24 hours after being named team Captain of the Alaska Aces for the PMHL10 season, Drew Doughty managed to get himself arrested in Denver, Colorado. He had just arrived in town, looking to spend some time with the Rockies' trainers leading up to the start of the regular season. It appears as though he got a little out of control after hooking up with a few buddies and a half-dozen prostitutes.
"Ya, I've gotten off to a bad start, no question... Hopefully the boys don't hold this against me, I take the Captaincy very seriously," Doughty told a handful of media-types earlier today.
I've attempted to be in touch with Aces' coach, Bob Probert, but he has not responded to my calls. This reporter is curious to see if there will be another changing of the 'C' even before the season begins.

Probert Looks to Youth for Leadership
Alaska Aces coach, Bob Probert, surprised a lot of people today in announcing D Drew Doughty as the Captain of the team for PMHL10. Doughty is a good, young prospect in the Rockies' organization, but he was not expecting to be wearing the 'C' so early in his career.
"This is a HUGE honor," Doughty told me and one other reporter at the press conference earlier today, "I certainly was not expecting this to happen, but I'm determined to be the best leader I possibly can for this team."
Probert took the time to inform the media how excited he is about the upcoming season. The Aces are looking to have as deep of a team as there is in the entire PMHL this season. It could be argued that they have 3 centermen in Krejci, Boychuk and Hudler that could just as easily be playing in the PHL at this point in there respective careers. Add that to Doughty, Biega and Tyutin on D... along with big seasons expected from LWers Daniel Carcillo and Colin Stuart... expectations are very high in Anchorage this season.
It was announced that the 'A's will be worn by LW Colin Stuart, RW HOFer Jody Gage and LW Greg Campbell.

Murray Steps Down as Captain... Its King Richard's Reign!
In a last-minute press conference in Denver today, Colorado Rockies' C Garth Murray declared he has decided to step down as Captain of the team and handed the 'C' over to RW Mike Richards. Murray stated that because of his reduced role on the team, he didn't think he would be able to lead by example as much as he has in year's past.

Aces Dominate Pre-Season
With a 6-1-1 record, the Aces are looking good through the pre-season of PMHL10. Rockies GM Justin Livingston expected as much heading into this season.
"I think we've done a great job in building a strong development program with the Alaska Aces, now its time for that to start to flow over to the parent club here in Denver."
The Aces are looking very strong down the middle, with perhaps the deepest group of centermen in the entire PMHL. C Zach Boychuk really stood out in the pre-season, putting up 11 points in the 8 games. C David Krejci and C Jiri Hudler also had strong showings.
The team's only weakness is on RW where there isn't a lot of talent.
"Yes, we're a bit thin on RW down there, but its by design. RW happens to be our strongest and deepest postition with the Rockies, so we're not in need of any help from the Farm in that regard. With Richards, Bourret, Stevenson and Burns, we're pretty well set on the right side," assured Livingston.
Aces coach Bob Probert knows the #1 priority is to get his players ready to join the Rockies in the PHL, though don't for a second think he doesn't have his eyes on another significant prize.
"The best thing we can do down here is to create winners. The best way to create winners, is to win! Our goal is to win the PMHL10 championship, no question."

Rockies' Rookies Leading the Way
Rockies GM Justin Livingston went into the draft expecting
to get some immediate help on their PRO roster, holding
the 8th and 18th overall picks. In years past, the GM's
game plan has been to continuously use the draft to keep
their FARM system strong and developing talent.
With the FARM now sufficiently filled with quality,
long-term assets, Livingston decided to use this past
draft to get some immediate PRO level talent. Now 4 games
into the preseason, his decisions are looking very sound.
The Rockies' are 3-1 in their preseason games, and they're
being led by their 2, 1st round picks.

Whalers PR
The Whalers would like to announce they have moved the third leading scorer in the Phl last year in order to try and shore up their defense for future as well as the present. We wish to thank Stanislav Chistov for his valiant efforts in getting us to the playoffs and helping us put a beating on those lowly "Booins". We hope that Stanislav can help out the Blue Jackets this year the way he has for us.
The Whalers now would like to welcome Aaron Johnson and P.K. Subban to the organization. Mr. Johnson immediately becomes one of our top 3 D-men, shoring us up for this year and the future. P.K. Subban has such a great upside that the Saints are beside themselves in being able to welcome him. The organization has immediately named Mr. Subban the captain of the Spruce Grove Saints and are really looking forward to an exciting season.
Mr. Gagne did try to move a few other players but realized that he may be affecting the chemistry a little too much and has put a halt on all deals, that is except the last one which sees Maxim Afinogenov moving to the perrenial PHL cup champions, the Maple Leafs. Sending Afinogenov moving back to the Leafs allows the Whalers to move towards the youth the have been so desperate in getting. Coming to the Whalers is Colton Scevior who becomes one of three starting RW's that is 18 yrs old joining Niklas Siren and Patrick Cehlin. The organization is completely excited in how the future is looking.
The youth movement this year also sees Juuson Rajala making the big club and Juha Metsola starting in net for the Saints. Luca Sbisa and P.K. Subban add to the youth movement for the Club. B.J. Crombeen has also been added to the farm to hopefully add some scoring punch to the farm.
Some notable additions to the Whalers are Jeff Halpern (who should add some PK strength) Tuukka Rask (an excellent back up for Miller) and Danny Richmond (who will add some defensive depth). All in all the ticket paying public are somewhat in awe of the moves GM Gagne has done but are treating them with eager anticipation. The majority of the public is just happy Mr. Gagne has not moved the beloved captain, Marek Svatos. We all know Svatos was looking to be moved but Mr. Gagne just couldn't find a deal that worked for the Whalers.
Stay tuned for what is sure to be another exciting season in Whaler country.
